Zero comes to mind a solution of the original question. It is round by shape, and is also a square number (0 = 02). It is certainly very small, and you could also say that "it is 'nought', what it seems". But I can't find a way to make (2) fit, unless it refers to ink or graphite.

Perhaps a cylinder? It looks round from above, but square from the side. It must be made of something. And it will seem to be a cirle or square, but it isn't. However, I don't see where the small size comes into play.

I found the answer, it's a nut in a nutcracker.

How is a nut in a nutcracker round and square? How is it not what it seems? And only some nuts could really be considered very small! I'm sorry but I think even my "0" answer was as good as that! And the Doc's was definitely better, despite the lack of explanation for "very small object" - some cylinders are quite small.

the answer to this riddle is a Ring .... a Boxing ring is round... but a gold ring is circular... hence a ring can be both round and square

hmmm i think a ring is too general. Maybe it is a "boxing ring" it's round in the sense that it is a "ring" but it's also square, for obvious reasons. It's not what it seems because it's a square. and it's small hmmm i don't know i'm sorry but i just will not accept that nut answer without an explanation.
