What Am I: Round But Also Square

Zero comes to mind a solution of the original question. It is round by shape, and is also a square number (0 = 02). It is certainly very small, and you could also say that "it is 'nought', what it seems". But I can't find a way to make (2) fit, unless it refers to ink or graphite.

It looks round from above, but square from the side.
It must be made of something.
And it will seem to be a cirle or square, but it isn't.
However, I don't see where the small size comes into play.

I'm sorry but I think even my "0" answer was as good as that!
And the Doc's was definitely better, despite the lack of explanation for "very small object" - some cylinders are quite small.

the answer to this riddle is a Ring .... a Boxing ring is round... but a gold ring is circular... hence a ring can be both round and square

hmmm i think a ring is too general. Maybe it is a "boxing ring" it's round in the sense that it is a "ring" but it's also square, for obvious reasons. It's not what it seems because it's a square. and it's small hmmm i don't know
i'm sorry but i just will not accept that nut answer without an explanation.
