A man who likes to read books more than anything opens a book he bought today and starts to read its last page. Why?

The book is Japanese. I have a bunch of those. Even translated into English they are read (unnaturally) last page to first, upper right corner of the "right" page, down and "leftward", toward the "left" page.

Although I think rloginunix is right, another possible answer could be that the book is a reference book, so the man is checking the index to look up a particular subject.

He had previously bought another copy of the same book, which he read all the way through only to find out that the last page was missing.

Nice answers all. on Oct 8th, 2016, 7:19am, rloginunix wrote:The book is Japanese. I have a bunch of those. Even translated into English they are read (unnaturally) last page to first, upper right corner of the "right" page, down and "leftward", toward the "left" page. |
| I didn't know about that but I did watch Dreams by Akira Kurosawa yesterday. The great film inspired me so I wrote another darn poem. I have about 1000 poems already and there is no end to revisions because I am a perfectionist. I might cut my ear off too like Van Gogh. I am ugly, bold, old, fat and I write poetry. Is there anything wrong with that?

Please, no self-inflicted bodily harm. Live long and prosper. The man is a Problem Solving Apprentice. He just learned about the Reverse Order problem solving approach, used fruitfully elsewhere on this forum, and wants to try his own hand at it: reconstruct the story line of a detective book just by reading its ending

Regarding the intended answer, he didn't read the book before, which happens not to be Japanese, and he reads a book the usual way, from the beginning.

It only has one page! Probably I would call that a 'pamplet' or 'leaflet' rather than a book though.

It's a hundred-page book.

The book was incorrectly manufactured. or: He is a very fast reader. No sooner had he opened the book than he was already starting to read the last page.

I recommend deletion of the riddle. He was distracted so he continued to read the book rather than started to read the last page. It sounds silly and it is faulty too. Sorry about that. I had an idea but I didn't think enough. Next time I'll wait for minimum six months before I post a riddle. Happy?

The book is about George W Bush's greatest achievements. It has only one page. Single sided.
