JUST A FLOWER WAS PLACED INTO A COFFIN AND BURIED IN A GRAVE. WHY?

Because it was dead Or more seriously, because, there was no body. And to given bereaved some closure, it can help if you bury at least something.

| This custom is not uncommon. However, if I recall correctly, loved ones usually place more items into the coffin and apparently more important ones. In any case, it is not the answer I am looking for.

"A. Flower" is the name of the person who was buried? I think it's more likely though that: This is the way that flowers are planted. The 'coffin' is something like newspaper to hold the roots and soil in place while you plant it. The 'grave' was the hole dug for the flower.
