Elizabeth has identical twins, Debby and Jenny, who are in topnotch health. Sometimes they play with their identities, making it difficult for others to tell them apart. One day they wore the same clothes and looked identical in all respects. When Elizabeth returned from the store that day and saw her twin girls, she knew right away who was who. They were sitting quietly on the couch doing nothing. Nobody else was in the house at the time. How did she know? There was a name reference. Or.. one is deaf, so when Elizabeth said something the one twin did not respond.

Because she was their mother, and a mother always knows. OR As soon as she entered the house, one of them shouted "Look mommy !! Tom and me are wearing exactly the same dress." Oops !! I should have seen 0.999's reply...

She has multiple personalities. She talks to her reflections, i.e. her twins. Of course she'd know whose who. They're wearing name tags. One of them was doing homework. The other one never does hers. EDIT: Also wanna ask: Did they're clothes look exactly the same, or was there something else on them, like a stain or something on one of them. Course, they could just swap clothes, so...

Their voices were different. OR Although it's rare in case of identical twins, it's possible that they were of different genders. May be the girl twin had changed back to her normal clothes before Elizabeth came back.

Elizabeth just murdered the two. She went to the store buy a butcher knife to dispose of the bodies. She found them where she left them, in the same pool of blood. or Elizabeth and the twins are dogs. The twins smell differently.

They were playing a multiplayer video game which displayed in an over-under format and had the players' names displayed in the corner of the screen. The one looking up was the top player, etc. Or Their clothes may be the same, but their accessories are different. (What book they're reading, which PSP they're playing, or which laptop they have in front of them, etc.) Or One of them tends to tease girls while the other is too shy; she sees a big red hand-shaped mark on one of their faces.

One of them had a broken tooth. So they could be easily distinguished as soon as one of them opened his or her mouth.

These last two possibilities raise the question, to what extent does "they look identical in all respects" apply? e.g. Can they look identical in all respects and yet at the same time one of them is crippled?

One of them always tell the truth, the other always tell lies. Elizabeth only had to ask, "If I ask the other girl...." you know the drill. on Nov 25th, 2010, 3:44am, gotit wrote:Although it's rare in case of identical twins, it's possible that they were of different genders. |

This causes cells to be insensitive to testosterone, in effect causing someone to develop as female even if they have both X and Y chromosome. Chance mutations and epigenetic differences after the fetus has split in two could therefore, in principle, cause identical twins to develop different genders. However, since it's stated that they look identical in every way, it wouldn't help you tell them apart even if they were of different gender, not unless they undress.

| If they are Siamese Twins, everyone will know who is on the right and who's on the left. Dressing up in identical clothes to confuse people doesn't make sense in that case.
