Joe and Johnny were sitting inside Joe's living room , talking to each other, when someone shot Joe through the open window. Joe died on the spot. But strangely, Johnny also died then and there. Why?

Joe's a nurse, when he died, he fell on Johny's life support. Or maybe he fell on Johny.

Joe was a terrorist wearing a suicide jacket with a deadman's trigger. So we he died he blew up and took Johny, and the building, with him.

Johnny is Jo's tapeworm. (a taking one, because of the "talking to each other" part)

They are two fish in a bucket that were talking to each other in fishtalk when someone shot at Joe in the bucket. Now thanks to Mythbusters, we now know that if you fire a bullet into a bucket, all the fish inside will die because the force of the bullet smacking the water transfers through the water and is enough to kill any fish in the barrel. Hence the term, easy as shooting fish in a barrel. Or maybe Johnny is a remote controlled doll. That speaks. What in the world?... Or Johnny is an imaginary friend

Hmm, the imaginary friend angle seems more plausible. I've known someone with a milder form of multiple personalities, and direct interaction between the personae -- having a conversation with yourselves -- would be extremely unusual! Now a schizophrenic hearing (and talking) to imaginary voices would be much more likely. --SMQ

Well, Multiple Personality Disorder(MPD) is the most extreme case of what is commonly known as Dissociative Identitty Disorder(DID). A person suffering from MPD may show symptoms of Schizophrenia and can even start viewing or talking to one or more of the other personalities present in him or her. However, I must confess that I have not seen any cases of MPD in reality. I have only read about such people in stories or seen them in movies.

See, now you made me pull down my copy of the DSM-IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Forth Edition; don't ask why I have it handy) and look it up rather than just rely on my own experience, dang it. It seems you could be right: from the section on Dissociative Identity Disorder (300.14, p484-5): "Alternate identities are experienced as taking control in sequence, one at the expense of the other. [...] An identity that is not in control may nonetheless gain access to consciousness by producing auditory or visual hallucinations (e.g. a voice giving instructions)." And later (p487): "Controversy exists concerning the differential diagnosis between Dissociative Identity Disorder and a variety of other mental disorders, including Schizophrenia [...]." So I guess I'll concede the point and stop nit picking. --SMQ
