Devil's Clock

One day a detective gets called to a house. He was asked to take a look at some weird things that were happening. He gets there after driving for a few hours and knocks on the door with two of these large, bronze, lion doorknockers. He meets the owners. He asks for the bathroom and is directed into a closet. The owners apologize, saying that they had just moved into this big house, inheriting it in a will. As the detective relieves himself he hears a faint knocking around the house. The owners tell him that it is a cat. After he finished he questions the owners. "So what did you call me out here for?" "I need you help. there are strange things happening. Please follow me." The detective follows him into a room filled with clocks. It is now 10:59. At 11:00, all the clocks ring. They are all digital. There is a small scratch after the first zero on every one. He examines them, confused. Then he is led into the study. There is a desk with a mirror and a large, old looking cuckoo clock on the wall. It is 1:09. The owner looks confused. The detective goes: "Whats wrong?" "The clock usually goes off at 10:50" Suddenly, at 1:10, the clock goes off. 3 demons come out where there is usually a bird. On the three are the letters LNR. The cuckoo clock starts playing the music "Hail to the King." The owners believe there is a mystery behind the clock and offer the detective lots of money if he figures it out. The detective investigates the house until sundown, not finding much but more clocks and mirrors, and is leaving the house when he realizes something. He figures out the hidden meaning and has the owners arrested. What is the mystery and why are the owners arrested?

I found this one on the web so I won't post the solution. But I will say it's a pretty difficult one to get. There's a number of things you have to unravel to get to the solution and each one is nontrivial. I certainly would never have solved this one on my own...

Yeah, its really complicated and hard so I'll hint along the way My friend told me this one. the original is even more complicated but I won't go that much in depth. I think it was detective Conan or something (Japanese comic)

ok... hint 1: most of the details, even though they seem useless, are used by the end of the riddle

Hint: The owners don't own the house. They are keeping the owner captive.

no. There is a secret with the alarm clock though. oh and by the way, the 11:00 digital clocks don't mean as much unless your japanese, in which case the 110(scratch) means King in Japan

Is the fact that 1:10 is the mirror image of 10:50 important?

If they just inherited the house, they might well not know that the clock is running backwards and meant to be looked at in a mirror.

I think that the R word is "Right" only because cheesepuff said they are common 5 letter words and said one of those was close. The fact that the owners lead him into a closet instead of a bathroom, is also probably another clue that it isn't their house. Edit: are the words Light, Night, Right? Pretty sure those are right, they are common 5 letter words that rhyme. Is the cuckoo clock set to a different time than the digital clock. Because at one time it's 11:00, Next it is 1:09. Is the cuckoo set like 2 hours ahead?

| Yep. Light Night and Right. Now fgure out what they mean. Oh and the time difference is only so the detective will have time to investigate. The cuckoo clock is 2 hours ahead. They all have the message 110, which means king.
