Broken key

You’re looking at locked sturdy iron door, trying to figure out how to open it. You’ve the key, but it’s broken in three parts, and there’s no glue in the windowless room. Speaking of room’s objects, there’s a chest with gold inside it, the fireplace and a small axe. From objects you’ve on your person, only the lighter is at your disposal, and, of course, clothes you’re wearing. A few hours later you manage to open the door. Can you explain it?

Sounds to me like you have everything you need to melt the gold and use it for a quick-and-dirty solder job on the key

It doesn't say that you're on the inside of the room, so you go fetch whatever is necessary to open the door. Wink

Well, even if you are inside the room, you can try and make a hole in its wall with the axe.
