It would have been a criminal offense to fall asleep? Or he gets arrested thanks to something else?

Tommy smuggled contraband in his carry-on during an international flight. The contraband was hidden inside coffee tins (with the coffee still in there). The sniffer dogs at the airport customs did not flag his luggage on account of the coffee odor masking the contraband scent.

I somehow doubt cocaine would be masked by the smell of coffee. I don't think that in general sniffer dogs have a problem with other smells masking what they are trained to find.

As you said, you think, but you are not entirely sure. So, is someone here 100% sure? I tell you one thing: I saw it in a movie once. Cocaine was in a bigger box or something, and on top of it was a lot of coffee. So what do you have to say about yourself now?

| I have little faith that movies would be more accurate in this aspect of reality than they are in physics, and for the latter I can offer: http://www.intuitor.com/moviephysics/ The sad truth is that in general things in movies happen solely as they do because it advances the story, or looks nice on the screen; and not because it's in any way logical, or touches on reality. Admittedly this doesn't exclude the remote possibility they accidentally got something right for once though.

Cocaine is not covered up by coffee. I went to a dogshow, they played it ( i mean performed by showing a virtual scenario of this) showing that the dogs can smell it (cocaine) out over coffee.

True, movies often get it wrong. But in this case cocaine can be masked from dogs under certain circumstances. It would depend on how well sealed the cocaine is, what type of sniffer dogs are used, ratio of coffee to cocaine etc... Its not 100% success or failure mind you but you are definitely going to get some through. More Police departments use special sensors to detect cocaine and other contraband because it can be masked under certain conditions from sniffer dogs http://www.gatech.edu/news-room/release.php?id=209 "Plus, scientists still don’t know exactly what chemicals the dogs are sensing, allowing for significant variations from one dog to the next. Dogs also have trouble detecting specific drug targets in the presence of other odors, such as coffee grounds. Unfortunately, the illicit drug traffickers are aware of this and invariably mask their product with different chemicals to evade authorities" http://www.ia.ucsb.edu/pa/display.aspx?pkey=1404 "Our sensor can detect cocaine no matter what they have cut it with: powdered sugar, flour, or the coffee that is sometimes used to mask the smell from dogs."

All very true, but when sniffer dogs are used, they genrally take multiple dogs, especially where this scenario is placed. In the demonstration i saw, they only used a labrador.

| Ahh, that explains the cases where the sniffer dogs went beserk and started humping someone's legs.

Good call JiNbOtAk, thats hilarious, you should see a show called "The Chasers War On Everything". THey actually go to an airport with meat stuffed in their pants and their clothes, the dogs reactions are good, the coppers are better.

I love the Chasers. Could you mask it with gasoline? I think you can smuggle pot like that, but I'm not sure.

Of course, any dog could sniff out crack, but it takes a really exceptional Sniffmeister to sniff out pirated DVDs. Seriously, though, I'm not aware of that news until you posted it denis. And the piracy problem have got to be curbed, it's getting crazier by the day. A console game ( PS, X-box, Wii ) are selling at RM10 for 3 piece. That's about RM 3.30 per piece, which works out to less than a dollar a DVD. Which also explain why we're superb gamers, we buy them by the truckload.

Hahaha, that's what is so good about Asia. Not the best economy, but they make up for that, and so everyone else gets a win/win.
