Tom loves three things, his two pets, the eagle and the snake, and his hunting rifle. In fact, out of affection, he named his rifle Eaglesnake, after his pets. He owes money to loan shark, so he asks his brother Paul, who likes riddles, to lend him $1000. But Tom broke a code between siblings by going out with Paul's ex, and so Paul tells him this: 'I will lend you the money only if you shoot those damn pets of yours, seven times each.'

I don't know if I'm missing something, but what is the riddle?

I thought it is obvious, but I guess I thought wrong. The riddles is, how can Tom get out of the above unenviable situation, by getting what he wants in the least painful way for him.

Well, let's get the obvious out of the way: since the rifle is named for the pets, would simply firing the rifle (on a licensed range, with proper protective gear, of course) seven times count? --SMQ

Shoot the loan shark with Eaglesnake seven times. Nevermind, the word "each" is causing this answer to not make sense.

- Shoot Paul, steal the money, get the girl - See the loan shark, shoot the loan shark, get more money - Fly to the Bahamas with both pets, drop girlfriend, she doesn't like pets.

Are the pets named eagle and snake, or are those words to describe the type of pets? I ask since it would be weird to name my prized (inanimate) possession 'cat' rather than the name of my cat, for instance. Im not sure of any other pets that could take 7 bullets and still be fine, but maybe he could shoot them with a BB gun. Although an eagle or a snake would probably get seriously hurt this way. Otherwise, he could buy two new pets, and shoot those. I'm sure that's not the best thing to do, but considering he is contemplating shooting his eagle/snake for money, he must be desperate.
