He was standing on a record. Or he was badly injured and only a noisy music was keeping him conscious.

Q2: Gullivan was sitting on a big chair. Unfortunately, this was one of the chairs the giants were using to play musical chairs.

A snake was being lulled by a snake charmer until his arch-nemesis walked by whereupon the charmer stopped playing and the snake bit him.

| I suppose that Death has given a valid answer, as most people would stop playing a piano just before they dropped dead (from poisoning). But if he died because the music stopped... He was playing the Wedding March on the organ at a wedding service and as the bride was half way up the isle he stopped to answer his mobile phone. The groom, who was a very, very angry man, in a fit of uncontrolled rage, exacted the ultimate revenge on the organist for ruining his beloved's day. ... or... He was undergoing an operation and to help aid concentration the surgeon was listening to relaxing music. Unaware that they were at a critical moment during the operation a nurse, who really didn't like the music, turned it off. The surgeon turned to rebuke the nurse and inadvertantly struck a vital organ causing irrecoverable damage. The man died.

A crocodile ate a music box. As long as the music box was playing, Captain Hook managed to escape the crocodile. But after a couple of years, when the spring was completely unwound, it stopped playing and the crocodile could get the unsuspecting Captain by surprise.

I guess we were trying to avoid the predictable "blindfolded circus performer" answer. Perhaps the man faced El Indio in a duel and as soon as the pocket watch finished its eerie melody he reached for his gun, but in the blink of an eye Indio drew his gun and made the fatal shot.

Another possibility: A man was sentenced to death. His last wish was to hear a last time Ravel's Bolero. It was granted.

Everybody followed the band as it marched down Main Street. As soon as the band was far enough, so that its music practically stopped, Charles knew he was safe, and stabbed Smith.

Q1: The man was a trapeze artist. He was intended to balance across a rope blindfolded, and his cue to step off the rope onto the platform was when the music/drumroll stopped. The murderer stopped the music, causing the man to step off prematurely. The man was quite daring and did not use a safety net, and thus left a small crater.

Crater? Bit exagerative, my answer is he was in a mob HQ. Was asked to play as he was the best in the area, did not wish to continue playing after they suggested he keep going after playing for 18 hours straight. When he stopped they shot him.
