Dean and Trigger are playing poker in Dean's flat. After a few games, Trigger says that he just remembered he forgot to turn off the headlights of his car, which is about two minutes away on foot. But then Dean stops him for a moment, proposing the real thing. He says, that when Trigger returns, there will be three pencils (with eraser) in a bowl, looking identical in all respects, except for the fact that he will mark each with a different felt pen. So when Trigger returns, Trigger will then shake well the bowl, right after Dean blindfolds himself. And w/o peeking, if Dean guesses all three colors right, he wins $1000, and there is no consolation prize as there are no points for second place. Triggers says, 'You're on!' Can Dean improve his chances?

By cutting shapes in the erasers? By choosing pencils of different lengths? By heating/cooling some pencils? By using 3 felt pens of the same color? edit: I overlooked the fact that they should be all identical.

O course Dean will guess all 3 colors right. After all, he marked them himself!

| You got it. Note that I modified the riddle by adding 'looking' only, although quite important fact I forgot to mention.

I was thinking that if the felt pens he used were scented, he would only need to smell the pencils.

By putting magnets on each of them, holding some metal, and feeling the magnetic pull of each of them to determine the color.

I've never heard of magnetic colors.

No he remembers the colors by how magnetic each one is. Similar to the one where you chip off the erasers unevenly.
