A man pulls over for a second, shoots a pedestrian from his car, and throws the pistol right away, since he had gloves. But right then he was unlucky, as there happened a police helicopter nearby. The helicopter's reflector is on his car, and so he hits the pedal for speed. Soon he hears the siren, as it also happened that there was two police cars pretty close by, which joined the chase. So the police obviously know the type and paint of his car. But he thinks to himself, that they probably didn't make the license plate yet, because the helicopter is following him sidewise, and the police cars behind him are not close enough. Anyway, he has two options, as the helicopter is on him like a cheap suit, and the police cars are steadily approaching. First is to continue to the intersection, where he has more options where to go from there, and he knows this town well, or to make the next turn, where the road soon ends. He takes the second choice and gets away with it, even though the helicopter is allowed to fly everywhere in this part of town, and nothing blocked the view between the helicopter and his car, which he parked outdoors. How did the police manage to lose him?

He stopped next to a forest, left the car, and lose himself in the dense foliage. OR He crashed his car against a wall, blowing up the car into smithereens, thereby ensuring that his body would never been found. OR He drove the Batmobile into the Batcave, which everyone knows is impossible to be located.. Do tell us when we're getting warmer..

I was thinking along similar lines of JiNbOtAk's first guess: He parked his car outdoors, in plain view for the helicopter, but went on foot where he could not be seen -- indoors (e.g., a mall, a movie etc.) or, like JiNbOtAk suggested, under cover of trees. Which leaves the question: did he not drive his own car? was it stolen?

| He actually was arrested. It is only months later during a fight in prison that he was hurt deadly. The police tried to keep his vital functions running but in the end they lost him. More seriously. He shot "from his car". So he can be identified from his car plate. Since the helicopter never lost sight of the car, whatever the car does, the helicopter can keep watch until the ground police men get to the car and read the license plate. So the only possibility I see is: he makes his car unidentifiable. For example, he enters a car demolition place and destroys his car. Or simpler: he stops near a subway entry, remove his license plates and enters the subway. Burning the car could also help;

Since this is a "what happened" I assume we can ask yes/no type question... Did the helicopter (or persons in the helicopter) briefly lose sight of the car despite what you said earlier?

| ...............you might say that, yes. But even if that is the case, why does this sound so final, since the road practically ends there? Think about that.. You have to search deeper, as there are other factors involved. Btw, I did not provide a contradictory statement, but I see your point. Perhaps rewording a bit would do. All I was trying to say, obviously in a clumsy way, was that there was nothing right between the helicopter and the car, and helicopter's altitude was pretty high. But if you want to nit-pick, the only thing between them was air. I am open for constructive suggestions, regarding the above sentence in question, as malice and usefulness are not one and the same thing.

The car arrived at the stadium parking lot where there was a sporting event taking place that night. The helicopter briefely lost track of the car amongst all the other cars going around in the same lot. Because of the size of this lot, there are many other cars of the same make and colour that are parked there that even if they tracked all of them down, they would not be able to "pin" their man because of the large number of suspects that would yield.

other possibility... he drove onto the ferry in plain view of the helicopter. The ferry left right after he arrived. Our crook took out a cigarette and leisureley puffed on it while the helicopter tried in vain to find a spot where it could land on the ferry. The ferry was too smal. The ferry then sailed our crimial outside the police jurisdiction just accross the river

It seems to me that the two contraints ( he parks it outside and does not destroy the car) will limit the solution to only a few possibilities. I like Grimbal's answer where he parks in an embassy. It's a clean solution and the police would be helpless to enter. The only other way I figure he can loose them if he parks in a large car park. The stadium or sport event is not required although a stadium would make the car park enormous and help his chances. To further increase his chances of success, perhaps their was a convention of BMWs (or substitute another car brand here) owners and our criminal was driving same. Would be easy to loose his car in a sea of similar cars.
