pointing finger

A man is found dead sitting in his convertible overlooking a mountain. His finger, because of rigor mortis, was pointing straight. His battery was dead from leaving the headlights on so long before he was found. There are 3 suspects 1) Chris Forrest 2)Wally Oak 3) Bill Fisher As this pointing finger should be able to point out the murderer, unfortunately he was pointing at 3 things. A forest full of oak trees, and a neon sign for a famous fish market. Yet, the detective found out who killed him. How?

I can see this going two ways. Either he couldn't see the woods or he could. If he could, Fisher can obviously be ruled out. I'm guessing he couldn't tell they were oaks (are oak forests common?). So Forrest it is. If he couldn't see the woods, it is obviously Fisher. It seems you need another line here. Was he close enough to see the forest at night or not? I'm thinking you intended the answer to be Fisher, as it takes a less competent clue-giver to provide the hint, but it is not immediately apparent in the scenario. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, though. Perhaps you just wanted a quick and dirty solution. If this is the case, you just wanted someone to say the oaks and the forest are the same thing and therefore could not be the hint. This seems faulty logic to me, as the man might be able to see the forest, but not distinguish that they are oaks. I'm not trying to poke holes in your riddle. I'm just trying to cover all the bases. One more thought before bed. Your scenario (and the answer to the riddle) will also depend on how you believe a fish market operates. A neon sign near a mountain would most likely be extinguished at night In the case of a heavy rain, though... Sorry to have exposed so much of the riddle so quickly, but there is really no way to hint towards the answer on this one. I know that hiding text does little good in preventing a curious mind from probing into someone's hypothesis, so I apologize if I've stolen some of the fun prematurely.

if he is pointing at the forest, one does not know wether its the oaks or the forest that is really pointing at. Also, since his headlights were on, we know it was dark so he probably coudn't see the forest anyway. So I would guess its the neon sign he was really pointing at (which is easily visible at night) and so Fisher is the guilty one.

I see two faults there, denis, but I agree that Fisher is likely the intended answer. I was editing my previous post while you posted. You must have just missed it. This may seem odd: If it was night and he was overlooking the forest, he should be able to see the trees, but not necessarily what type they are. He can see the forest, but not the oak. If it was raining, Fisher might be the one but so might Forrest once again. There was one other thing I wanted to mention. Ah well... Oh yes! The car is a convertible, yet there is no mention of the state of the roof. Is it up? Down? This could refute the raining scenario. I already feel I've gone far too complex on this riddle. Far more than the writer intended, anyway.

Far more grimbal It was Fisher anyways because he couldn't see the forest at night with his headlights on because he was on a ledge with the forest far under him. HE could only see the neon sign. Anyways this was solved quickly...

I don't know who it is, but i thought it was the third thing that gave the clue. Three things he pointed at: 1. The Oak Forest 2. The Fish Market Neon Sign 3. ?? ?? ?? ?? ?

I don't know much about oaks, but if they're mostly tall and straight, the straight finger could mean oak.
