Murder note

A man was found dead on a street in New York. There was a note in his hand that read this:

710 57735 34 5508 51 01345345

The detective there read it and immediately arrested the CEO of Shell. Why?

P.S. This did not actually happen, and I have no idea who Shell's CEO is or if it's HQ is in New York or not.

Ever since seeing a book of calculator tricks I've had odd mental assciations with the Shell Oil company...  but I'm still not 100% sure what this message is trying to say: I get ShEShEIO IS BOSS hE SELLS OIL which doesn't seem to parse very well...

I too have an odd mental association.  Mine is with the repetition of 34 and 345 though.  I saw it in an old Hardy Boys book when I was about five.  Anyways...

I can't make heads or tails of the final piece either, but the rest is easy.

It is very thoughtful of the killer to give the victim time to write such an elaborate note before killing them. You could almost imagine the scenario...

"So Bob, my expendable little employee. By now you should be feeling the effects of the poison."

"It's funny you should mention that, sir. I am feeling a little under the weather."

"Mwahahaha! Very soon you will lose the ability to communicate, then you will collapse, and death will surely follow."

"That's nice. Would you mind if I spent my dying moments playing with your office calculator and writing a completely meaningless string of digits on a piece of paper that will not implicate you in any way at all?"

"Go right ahead. Anyway, I'd love to stay around and chat, but I've got to go to an important meeting. Could you let yourself out and make sure that you don't die in the building? We've just got new carpets throughout and I find that the relaxing of the bowels following death can make a right mess, but more importantly it could create suspicions. There's a good chap."

Let's put it this way. He was shot, and he wrote the note in blood as he lay dying.

Why put it in code if he's about to die anyway? There doesn't seem to be much point in trying to make the message covert if you're already about to die - it isn't as though you've got anything more to lose, and if the killer's thorough, he's going to clean up any potential attempt to communicate anything in your last moments anyway, rather than leaving it to chance that you haven't left some encoded clue.

Clearly the killer was attempting to frame the CEO of Shell with this dastardly scheme, assuming the detectives would think that a blatant message would not be the work of a victim Roll Eyes
