A bomber is flying a bombing strike...
« on: Dec 7th, 2006, 9:38pm »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

A bomber is flying a bombing strike against an enemy position in World War II. When they reach the target, the bombadier orders the bomb doors open. They are opened. The bombadier then gives the order for the bombs to be released. They are released. However, the bombs do not hit the ground. How is this possible?

It didn't hit the ground, it hit the target.

I'm pretty sure the bombardier would be blacked out, and the bombs wouldn't even be released.

He wouldn't be blacked out, but the bombs would definitely not have been released.

Well we can consider it to be a basic twin-engine bomber, a B-25 Mitchell. Pretty basic. Flying upside down for any amount of time would certainly make it hard to actually release bombs, or do much else besides pilot a plane.

Yes.  The bomb never touched the ground.

I disagree.  As someone who has done a great deal of flying and spent a large amount of time upside down, I feel that the sensation of having blood rush to your head is more stimulating than blackout-causing.  It really only makes your feet fall asleep, not the rest of your body.  Next time you fly a plane try it.  It's really quite stimulating.

I don't think that bomber has the above maneuvering ability. Then again, don't know much about bombers. Perhaps Maverick can shed light on this.  Wink

I'm not sure I'll ever fly a plane. If I win the lottery, maybe I can, but I'd most likely get a car that doesn't break down everytime I drive that I have to fix on the side of the road.

Maybe the bomb was defective and the bomb exploded while going down.

Still think the ship answer is the best, since it's the most plausible. When you say ground, I think that's a pretty good answer. It's more likely to be bombing a ship than releasing bombs while flying upside down.

Well, everything in the bomb does not completely dissapear when it explodes, part of the bomb would still make it to land:

Well, that is assuming the bomb would be plastic or something. As I've always expected, metal sinks. Otherwise, ships would be washed ashore.
