A man is dead in a desert...

A man is dead in a desert with a rock lying beside him. There are no footprints leading to or away from him, nor have any been covered over. How did he die?

Not by land and not by sea, so he must have come by air.. If there was also a trail of clothes leading up to him, it'd be a very wellknown riddle..

Deserts can be quite rocky. You can go and leave without leaving footprints. There can be tracks of a bicycle arriving there and tracks of a heavy tank running over the guy and his bicycle. There can be a high rope running over the spot.

Yes, it is important. Assume that there is no wind.

He is in the middle. BTW about the wind u don't have to pretend it doesn't exist as in the original riddle I posted it says none have been covered over.

Wind doesn't actually sweep footprints away, it just covers them with sand. Let's see...he got there by some mode of transportation (airplane, helicopter, etc) I'm guessing? Or it could've been a car, as that leads tracks, not footprints.
