What happened in February 1866 that will not happen again for two and a half million years?

It is, but there was another one in 1885, 1915, .... the next will be 2018.  Was it some other astrological event?

I'm pretty sure dragon is right, lizard.  You must have gotten some other thing mixed up with this one.

Well, what Lizard seemed to be referring to was the fact that there was a full moon combined with winter solstice and lunar perigree.  However, this has already happened since then.  February 1866 was a weird month.  Wonder what else happened then....

http://www.moonphases.info/moon_phases.html

"There are months in which no full moons occur. For example, there was a full moon at 18:25 universal time on Feb. 28, 1991. This means there was no February full moon in east Asia and the Pacific, where it was already March. Years in which February lacked a full moon are 1809, 1847, 1866, 1885, 1915, 1934, 1961, 1999, 2018, 2037, 2067, 2094 (Meeus 1995, Odenwald)"

Just FYI.

This may never be settled.  Conflicting sources tend to produce conflicting arguments.

I would imagine that sources that are not counting the other years with no full moon in February are not taking into account timezones and parts of the world outside the US.

Hmm i think you both are right. In light of these two sources, you both win. Sometimes it is hard to distinguish riddles only meant for US and that apply for the whole world!!  Wink

According to wikipedia.com

Quote:
February 13 - The first daylight robbery in United States history during peacetime takes place in Liberty, Missouri. This is considered to be the first robbery committed by Jesse James and his gang, although James's role is disputed.

Jesse James is coming back from the dead.

That's what it looks like, FYI.
