Is the man mad

Mr. X has his home on twenty-fourth floor of a building in my city.The person takes the lift down on way when going office,the crux of the situation lies when he returns,its petty late and there is no one to take the lift accept him...still he takes the lift to eight floor and rest steps up the staircases. why he does so

I'd say it is the other way around, so no. About that detail I didn't mention.. it is made out of more details, but of same type. Hope this makes sense to you, because it does not make sense to me.
