Killer loop
« on: Aug 15th, 2006, 7:19am »
Quote Quote Modify Modify Remove Remove

John decides to kill Tom for reasons that are unimportant for this riddle. He knew that Tom never locks his doors, so he just slips inside at night, using gloves. He sneaks to Tom's back, and hits him with an iron bar he later disposes of by throwing it in the river together with gloves. Note that this happened on a bridge close by, and police or anybody else didn't see him getting rid of the evidence. He then takes Tom's clothes of, makes bath and puts unconscious Tom in it to make it look like he slipped, knocked his head and then drowned. But Tom gets to his senses, and tries to get some air, but John, who is stronger, firmly holds his head under the water, until Tom stops struggling. John then leaves the house. He thought he got away with it, but it was rather soon, that is, about 15 minutes later John got arrested, and sentenced for this, even though there were no witnesses, nor were there recording devices involved. So what got John arrested?

Well, if Tom managed to keep his wits about him during his brief period of consciousness, he could have stopped struggling and held his breath to fool John into believing him dead, carefully and quietly taken a breath once John left the room, then phoned the police once he was sure John had left.

You got it SMQ. Smiley And here is a bonus riddle, just to use up the space for not so hard riddles..  Wink  Embarassed  Tongue

Saturday night fever

John and mark are relaxing, sipping beverage in a pub. John asks Mark to lend him his car for upcoming Saturday night. Mark says: 'If you can guess what word I have in mind, I will give you the keys to the car. It is a usual everyday word, as I certainly don't want to make it harder for you, my dear amigo...' 'Of course not, buddy...' - replies John. So can John get keys to Mark's car or not?  Wink

This is an interesting approach,  Shocked but the way riddle is worded, I think disallows it as a plausible answer. Not the intended answer.   Cool

Unless John can read his mind, i don't think he can get the keys to his car, to answer the first question.

To answer the intended question of 'what word was it?', i would say that i've got no idea Grin Grin Grin Tongue

The title is of no importance. It is like titles of Classic peaces for piano - pretty much meaningless. Just to separate one peace from another.   Grin

I'm gonna have to say no. As in, the word he's thinking of is "no."

Well since that would make Mark's initial answer no, he'd have to uphold his end of the bet, and by answering the question, John would get the keys, despite his initial reaction.

This is nice approach, quite similar to the alternative answer, actually. But I have doubts about it, since Mark would think of that word after Johns answer, and not before. If you can think of a way that includes thinking about it before, that would be a better answer. Would it not? Have to think about this some more though..  Now you got me puzzled.  Wink

I think I get now what is wrong with your suggestion, cchris. You say, that would make Mark's initial answer 'no', but there is no guarantee Mark will reply like that. Maybe he would say nope, or not even close. See?    Cool

And remember my tricks from before? Why should this riddle be any different! Think tricks. Think alien tricks.

hidden:
Yes, he gets the car. The word was " buddy". Mark said " If you can guess what word I have in mind, I will give you the keys to the car. It is a usual everyday word, as I certainly don't want to make it harder for you, my dear amigo" the key word there being amigo, which translates into english as friend, which is another word for buddy.

Interesting approach, but why would amigo be the winner? Perhaps Mark has another word in mind? Maybe you can shed light on this, because your answer sure reminds me of the alternative answer.

Grimbal, I decided to accept your new answer! But this riddle is far from over, because it has two more plausible answers, and, thanks to Grimbal who showed the way, maybe even more. So stay on it, riddlers, as we should squeeze all plausible answers out of this one like squeezing an orange! And then meritoriously drink the juice.  Cool Or not.  Embarassed  Lips Sealed

Nice try Sameer, but 'everyday ' would have to be in parenthesis, would it not? I don't think you can look at it that way, the way riddle is worded.

It doesn't matter what John says, if Mark wants to let him borrow the car he'll say yes and if he doesn't want him to borrow the car he'll say no.  So the answer to "Can John borrow Mark's car" is...yes, if Mark wants him to.

I don't think so graphia, but stay on it. Like I said, this riddle is not over. Maybe it is never over.

I know from a reliable source that towr knows one of the two answers. He solved it on a different frequency connecting Mars and Earth. So pay attention to his hints.  Wink

Actually, I really like your answer graphia, but I think we have to focus on Mark's little game, what he said, not the question I posed to you at the end.
