John came to visit his friend Henry. After the usual pleasenteries were exchanged, Henry suggested a drink, and John went to the liquor cabinet. Henry called to John: "You may take any bottle you want, except for the two closed Champagne bottles on the bottom. These are very expensive, and I save them for a special occasion. " John, who loved a good bet, answered: "I bet you I could drink from one of these bottles, without opening them, unscrewing them, pushing the cork in, or harming the bottle in any way. If I succeed, I get a bottle of Shampagne. If I fail, I'll buy you another bottle. " Henry, who could not resist the easy gain, agreed. Later, he had to hand over a precious bottle to John, having lost the bet. How?

If you took the bottle of champagne to a chamber that had sufficiently low pressure wouldn't the high pressure contents push the cork out (not in) and open the bottle?

Won't you call that "opening the bottle"?

I suppose if The bottom of the bottle is curved inwards, as it often is, you could put liquid in it, and drink from it. It'd be like a really shallow cup Another option, though it might constitute harm is Push in a syringe through the cork, and extract some champagne (or shampagne) I think, I'll leave out sci-fi inspired plans for now.

| Interesting idea. You probably won't need the syringe. Insert the needle deep enough and the pressure will help to make a nice fountain. I'll have to try that some day.
