Out the window
« on: Jul 17th, 2006, 6:27pm »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

As a man jumps out of a window, he hears the telephone ring and regrets having jumped.

Why?

P.S i think this is very similar to the suicide puzzle but i only think it because the answer was never given.

Probably a woman who said she'd never speak to him again. If that's the case, get out the whip.

How about post-nuclear war?  He thought he was the only man alive, and was lonely so he decided to kill himself.

YES! it was post holocaust and he thought he was the last man on earth. thus he didn't want to go through life alone and jumped out the window as the phone ringed.

I really can't believe anyone could think they were the last person on earth after the holocaust. At worst they might think they're the last of their family, but simply hearing the phone ring wouldn't change that thought.

Are you sure the answer isn't nuclear holocaust? (i.e. the aforementioned nuclear war/ post-apocalyptic scenario, but in different words)

Here is the answer according to the site:

This is a post-holocaust scenario of some kind; for whatever reason, the man believes himself to be the last human on Earth. He doesn't want to live by himself, so he jumps -- but when he hears the telephone ring, he realizes he's not the last human on Earth after all.

If you check that thread a little more carefully, you will see that this is the same riddle, the answer was given, and it was declared correct by maryl or kitty (whichever one it was who posted it).
