Escape artist

A prison in the middle of a large lake wakes one morning to find that a prisoner has escaped leaving a broken shoelace as evidence. The prisoner could not swim and it was about a mile back to shore. How has he done it? P.S since i am a newbie, sorry if my puzzles are really easy or if they've been posted by another already

It might have been a really shallow lake.. Of course that totally disregards the shoelace.

It was winter and the lake was frozen. You mentioned the 'broken' shoelace, and I think you can snap a shoelace like a twig if it is frozen enough. But why would anyone want do that?

well, alien, i think you're right, but maybe he broke his shoelace because he wanted to let the people know he was gone. Afterall, he is an escape ARTIST, and the definition of an escape artist is "a performer who entertains by escaping from confinement" so i guess the shoelace was kindof like his trademark

I like the idea of the lake being frozen. The broken shoelace could be left from when he was putting on his ice skates (don't worry about how he got them), and had to put his old laces into them.

The frozen lake thing is better than my idea but I first thought; wouldn't the prison have bridges or boats docked for transport of food and stuff? As for the shoelace, i disreguarded it completely. (sorry!)

My answer agrees with alien; he skated off to his freedom on ice skates, one of which had a broken shoelace from the cold he skated off to his freedom on ice skates, one of which had a broken shoelace from the cold he skated off to his freedom on ice skates, one of which had a broken shoelace from the cold he skated off to his freedom on ice skates, one of which had a broken shoelace from the cold he skated off to his freedom on ice skates, one of which had a broken shoelace from the cold he skated off to his freedom on ice skates, one of which had a broken shoelace from the cold he skated off to his freedom on ice skates, one of which had a broken shoelace from the cold he skated off to his freedom on ice skates, one of which had a broken shoelace from the cold he skated off to his freedom on ice skates, one of which had a broken shoelace from the cold he skated off to his freedom on ice skates, one of which had a broken shoelace from the cold he skated off to his freedom on ice skates, one of which had a broken shoelace from the cold he skated off to his freedom on ice skates, one of which had a broken shoelace from the cold he skated off to his freedom on ice skates, one of which had a broken shoelace from the cold he skated off to his freedom on ice skates, one of which had a broken shoelace from the cold

I would say the broken shoelace is there only as a hint that he changed shoes. I don't think a shoelace can break from the cold when it is reasonably cold.

I played with puff-puff toy when I was a kid. I still do. Not a bad point Grimbal, but water is associated more to humans, since our bodies consist of significantly less water. Also, aliens are green humanoid specie, rather similar to humans, so instinctively you could call as "men" and "women", even though most of us are bisexuals. The rest of us are born as males or females. But the main reason is of esthetic nature, since Iceman sounds better than Icealien.
