A king, his sister, his best friend, and his best frind's wife are sitting around a table. Upon the table sits three pies. They all love food more than life, but they all got equal shares. They did not cut the pies. How did that work?

* In a bit of rage* Yes! Darn it, you people are too smart!! I'll never come up with a good riddle to stump anyone here..... Except, of course, that one about the sinking ship I posted many moons ago. That was my best riddle.

I wonder if the king approved of the marriage because it was his best friend, or they became best friends after the marriage.... I'd like to point, though, that under some special circumstances, there may a slightly different answer, where the best friend's wife is not blood-related to the king.

There's a third answer.. If you also allow the possibility the King's sister married another woman (the sister being his best friend).

Combine them: The king's best friend is himself, and he is married to his own sister. Now we have a pie too many instead of too few!

To stretch it further: In an attempt to avoid the power struggle after her brother/husband's death the sister is masquerading as King and she is her own best friend.
