MARK AND JOHN ARE WATCHING ON TV DAVID COPPERFIELD'S SHOW, WHERE HE MAKES THE STATUE OF LIBERTYY DISAPPEAR. JOHN ASKS MARK TO LEND HIM 1000$. MARK SAYS: 'IF YOU CAN TELL ME HOW COULD ONE MAKE STATUE OF LIBERTY DISAPPEAR WITHOUT TOUCHING IT WITH ANYTHING OR USING SPECIAL EFFECTS, I WILL LEND YOU THE MONEY.' WHAT ANSWER CAN JOHN THINK OF SO THAT MARK LENDS HIM THE MONEY?

Get the French and the US into a diplomatic accident, so that the US can only send the statue back to where it comes from.

Your assumption is witty, but if I'm gone, the question is still there.

If it's made of marzipan, wait for someone to eat it.

If it's made of ice, wait for sun to melt it.

If it is the actual Statue of Liberty in the harbour in New York, then wait a few thousand years for the wind and the rain to wear it down.

If Mark & John are talking apes, then they can just wait for the tide to come in.  Wink

fair enough.
But then, that's A Statue of Liberty.

[annecdote]
As an aside- I had a Kiwi New Zealander friend (hey, it happens) who amused himself for a while by standing on the shore near aforementioned statue and asking "statue? Statue, bro? Statue?"
Maybe you have to be a kiwi to find it genuinely funny. I found it mildly amusing.

An ice sculptor might have made it.
Btu as Noke said, it would be A statue of liberty, not THE statue of liberty.

You shouldn't be so hard on him. Poor fellow had his membership and record just suddenly ripped away from him. How would you feel if that happened to you, Mr Iceman with your 1000 posts that mysteriously can't be found? Wink

I don't think the correct ("a" correct) answer has been said so-far, even if the late alien confirmed one.

Assuming "A" statue of liberty would had been made of ice, once it is melted, it is not made disappear, but it is ruined, spoiled, destroyed, etc. Disappear to me implicitely includes that the object still exists but cannot be seen, the whereabout of it is unknown. Of course we use disappear many times when we do not see the object, while it might have been destroyed already. But once we know it is gone for good, we do not call it disappear anymore. And here the solution is based on the destruction scenario, thus incorrect.

But there is the only answer I would think correct, although I don't know a proper English word for that. In Hungarian we would call "sehogy", meaning nohow (just like Where? - Nowhere!, Who? - Nobody!, etc.) Because that is the only true and honest answer. Even David touches the object or uses other special effects to make it disappear.
