a lawyer said in court: "My client had found a will stuck between page 157 and 158 of a book. The property is rightfully my client's." The will looked genuine, and all the information was right, but the client did not get any property at all. The will was classified as fake. Why?

hidden: | may be because 157 and 158 are the numbers of two sides of a same physical page. But still its not uncommon to "hide" a will between two sides of the same page |

its a will, not a watermark and books usually are written with writing and page numbers given to both sides of a page

It doesn't say it is a book. Even then, if the deceased is a writer, it could be a manuscript written on a typewriter.

And even if they lied about where they found the will, or simply made a mistake, it's no ground for dismissing the will.

| If they are going to lie, why not make it a decent one? It doesn't take much to confuse 156,157 with 157,158 Most people are bad with numbers anyway.

What if the book was not numbered in base 10?

Hm.... I only know of a case of a small computer newsletter that was numbered in binary. When they printed number 100, a school library asked for the missing numbers 12 to 99. Anyway, can you think of a base where 157 and 158 are on different physical pages?

| Interesting. (157)b = ( 7 + 5*b + b2 ) 10 and hence for all values of b, this number will be "odd". So if we assume that pages of book are numbered starting with 1 on RHS page, then not possible

Maybe if you don't use an integer base..

Unless you had an extremely thin kife witch made a thin cut, I don't see how its possibe to hide a will in a piece of paper, unless it was made that way, or the paper had a secert message.

| A watermark in the paper might work. Of course, that would still only be well-readable from one side.
