Well, maybe oddly enough the bullets had fingerprints on them? Seems kind-off silly though, not sure how well they'd preserve the prints. How long were they married? Were they on a vacation?

I think there was one Colombo where an actor was killed. The actor played a scene where he gets shot. The murderer replaced the fake bullets (those that make noise but don't harm) in the gun with real bullets. He wiped the gun, he wiped the bullets, but he forgot to wipe the fake bullets that he took out of the gun. And whoever took out the fake bullets put in the real ones.
