A cab driver and a lady passanger are trapped in one, rather, short tunnel, closed on both sides by a massive landslide. The driver steps out of the car, and is instantly killed by the falling cement slab from the vault of the tunnel. The lady has one hour time to get out of there before the whole tunnel collapses. She immediately sees an opening at the northern entrance among cement slabs, but too narrow to allow her to get out. Fifty five minutes later, that is, five minutes before the tunnel collapsed, she had managed to leave the tunnel. How did she do it? I have posted this riddle on the former Astonia forum.

Using the emergency exit? Well, she could light a fire under the fuel tank, let it boil, push herself in the opening as far as she can, and wait for the air/fuel mixture to become just right for the explosion that will push her out...

| There is no emergency exit. Quote:Well, she could light a fire under the fuel tank, let it boil, push herself in the opening as far as she can, and wait for the air/fuel mixture to become just right for the explosion that will push her out... |
| Nice try Grimbal but I think that the explosion would only wound her or even kill her so no.

She has 55 minutes to dig. Normally she would need 60 minutes, but adding the fact that she will loose weight in the process should make up for the difference. Or she uses her cell phone to call for help. Or she climbs on the taxi roof and gets out tru the ceiling where the cement slab fell down. Or she uses the cab radio. Or she notices that it was actually a train tunnel, so whe waits for the train to run through the heaps of ruble and free the way. Hm??

No to everything. Quote:Or she uses her cell phone to call for help. |
| She didn't had a cell phone. Quote:Or she uses the cab radio. |
| Not a bad idea but I haven't thought about it when I was creating the riddle. Let's just say that it doesn't work. Even if it did work they would probably not be able to save her in time. Anyhow, there was no outside intervention. Hint: one of your suggestions is very close to the answer but I won't say which for now…

Sewage pipes? (should be the same like the water drain, right?) or any technical spaces for electricity or whatever? If there was a land slide, part of it could continue sliding. Mabe the opening at the north end is widening, or the hole at the ceiling is getting bigger until the whole side of the tunnel breaks down. Maybe it is one of these mountain tunnels with occasional openings on breathtaking views. She jumps out. She gets badly hurt, but only after the problem is satisfactorily solved. Or she noticed that the back side of the cab is under the ruble. By just moving the cab a meter forward, she opened a hole wide enough to get out.

No. Nothing like that. You will never guess the answer! Not without at least one more hint anyway. If you solve this riddle without another hint that would be praiseworthy.

Using the information that one of grimbals clues was close... She covers her self in brake fluid to act as a lubricant then squeezes out the hole? Or she covers herself in her own blood- that way making herself thinner too. the gap in the concrete is widen by the cunning use of the jack in the car.

So taking her clothes off by itself isnt enough? Does she have to chop something off?

| The right track? Not the left track? So there is a train in the story after all, right? Hm. If she needs blood, it would be better to use her driver's blood. Does she manage to widen the hole somehow, with watever she has available (blood, brake fluid, fuel)?

She got into the cab. Closed all the windows. Turned on the heat to full blast. After 55 minutes of this improvised sauna, she lost some weight, and was covered in sweat, so she managed to wiggle her way out.

She was pregnant. She delivered her baby on the back seat of the cab and managed to get out without difficulty. So, the baby was covered with blood and wiggled its way out, and then she did the same.

She drove the car next to the opening, and set it on fire (the owner won't be needing it anymore). The generated heat served to widen the opening on the one hand, and to cover her it sweat on the other.
