Two men were tried infront of the jury. One was convitited of murder, the other was inocent. The Judge turned to the guilty man and said "Although you are guilty, I cannot send you to jail" what happened here?

Or perhaps it was discovered that the guilty man was found to have diplomatic immunity or perhaps the guilty man was just diagnosed with a terrible disease that had to be managed in a hospital or perhaps the judge only presided over the "guilty or not guilty" case but was not going to preside over the sentencing phase of the trial or perhaps in the country where this trial took place, the punishment for murder was a slap on the wrist or perhaps the judge was insane and thought his job was to make rediculous comments or perhaps the judge's daughter was being held captive and would be killed if he sent the mafia boss to jail.
