Her shooter shot her dead, rolled up the windows, locked the doors, closed the doors, and left.

Just because there are no bullet holes in the windows does not mean there are no bullet holes in the car at all, maybe a shot through the roof. Of course it could be suicide.

Hasn't anyone considered the possibility that she was shot by a photographer?

Although the puzzle itself does not mention it, the thread title indicates the shooting was fatal. Unless she had an extraordinary fear of being photographed and died of a heart attack, this is not the solution!

I had also considered the photographer idea. Nowhere does it say that the shot killed her. "Shot Dead" could mean she was photographed while dead, so that seems reasonable. She could have been shot by a laser through the window too. The first suggestion that the car door was shut after she was shot makes the most sense, but also makes me wonder why this is a riddle at all.

This woman was the victim of a drive by shooting. She and her husband were driving through the Golden Acres retirement community in Baton Rouge, Florida. The woman, unaware of the local gang culture decided to put on her red sweater (why she was cold and needed a sweater to be explained later). Well, unknown to this woman and her husband, this retirement community or "Nity" was divided by two gang factions: The Blue Bloods and the Crippled Old People. The Blue Bloods of course always wear red sweaters, and the Crippled Old People sport blue cardigans (sometimes v-necks but never turtle-necks). These two gangs had never seen eye to eye and recent events in the drug trade had driven their enmity to a fever pitch. It seems the Crips were bringing in cheap drugs from across the border in Canada. This undercut the Blood's trade in Viagra knock-offs forcing them to cut their prices or force the Crips out of the market. The morning of the drive by shooting under discussion the Bloods had attacked the Crips lounge and TV room, spilling more than just juice and breaking more than cookies. The scale of this attack drove the Crips into a frenzie. They rioted. Marching through the "Nity" they took their vengence on anyone wearing a red sweater. Was it just bad luck, or was it fate, or was it predestined, or was it karma, or was it destiny, or was it chance, or was it something else. Anyway, the lady in the car was wearing a red sweater so the Crips shot her. She put on the sweater because her husband liked to drive with the top down. "What," afterall, "is the point in owning a convertible if you can't drive with the top down once in a while," he would grumble.

The convertible was already suggested by Speaker, but rejected by Jess_13. That seems like a very good answer to me. However the simple answer: the killer shut the door after shooting seems more likely. Even here in sunny Los Angeles, I don't see many convertibles, despite plenty of cars and automobile shootings. If a body shot to death is in the trunk of a car with no bullet holes in the car, I would similarly guess the door to the trunk was shut by the killer. Another lame suggestion: the victim was in the process of shutting a locked door when the bullet slipped in the opening. Even if the victim instantly let go of the door, inertia would have shut it. Or the bullet went in an open window, through the victim and embedded in the switch to close all power windows in the car.

I think the answer depends on a play on words. As in shot having more than one meaning, and gun also having different meanins. In the most recent hint, Jess_13 says "shot with a gun dead" Which, I cannot figure out, but I think the answer is a play on words.

It could be play on words. And maybe the killer was someone the victim knew, a good friend of her or something like that, so she let him in the car. But what about the red sweater?

The only one that doesn't seem to have been tried explicity, although it is really a subtle variation of the very first reply given by John: the husband shot his wife before locking the car and leaving. Of course, he would return to find her shot. I can't think of many more variations for this. I'm wondering with all the suggestions, the solution that Jess has been looking for has already been mentioned. Having said that, the suggestions have been so good, that we may well be disappointed with the expected answer. I personally like Speaker's convertible idea best, as it fits the clues so well.

Look closely at the riddle: "Her husband comes back to find her shot" Comes back? Did the riddle say he left to go somewhere? Was he in the car to begin with? Why did he leave? "there are no bullet holes in the windows" Are there bullet holes in the doors? The roof? The underside of the car? "she is wearing a red sweater...how did this happen?" If I take this literally, I'd say 'When she got up that morning, she pulled the sweater over her head and arms.' Jess probably mean "how did all of this happen," right? If so, wouldn't ANY sweater I am wearing, if I am shot with a guy, turn red with my arterial fluids? "she WAS wearing a white sweater, but it is RED now!" lol Given what I have seen, I'd have to rule with suicide. EverGreenA3

We can assume that the "her" in "... finds her shot." is the woman, not the car, right? Anyway, the woman could have committed suicide with her own gun, and the bullet escaped thru the roof. Or she was shot with a syringe. Do you say "shoot" for that?

Damned hunting accidents. After ages of complaining, the husband finally caves into his wife's request to come and trot through the woods, swigging beer and shooting anythign that twitches. ahhh, manly activities.... Unfortunately, she gets separated from hubby, and heads back merrily towards the car. Cletus, fueled by pappy's moonshine finds her. Mistakes her for a deer, takes aim and shoots. The slug rips through her gut, and passes straight through. Somewhat bemused as to the new shade of crimson pumping through her jumper, she soldiers on towards the haven of the car. Cletus erupts from the bushes, ye-hawing along the way chasing his prey. Ah... she thinks, best lock myself in the car to stop that yokel interfering with me.... And what does Cletus see? That ain't no deer at all... they don't drive them fo ren cawrs. the wife bleeds out in the cara, scared, whilst the hubby finishes up hunting and comes back to something he won't be able to stuff anymore....

Okay guys, "funny" solutions aside -- Jess_13 is deserving of our best and most serious attempt at this. Let's recap what we know: "There is a woman in the car" Woman => lady => laddie => boy => man Car => truck => monster truck => Truckasaurus => T. Rex => Trex => Trek => Star Trek "The windows are up and the doors are locked" Red Herring, ignore: MS Windows is never 'up' because it's always crashing. One should always leave the window 'down a crack' so it doesn't get too hot. Doors => Jim Morrison => death by drugs => DbD => DVD Locked => secured => sequecentennial => 150 years "Her husband comes back to find her shot" Husband => anagram for 'Dan Bush' Shot (n) => synonym for 'bullets' => bulletin "There are no bullet holes in the windows and there was no one else in the car" Was => anagram for 'saw' "She is wearing a red sweater" Jess_13 is a bit cheeky here - the sweater wasn't red, only the broach from the former USSR. Broach (tr.v) => antonym of 'hide' => homonym of 'hyde' "How did this happen?" How => spanish for 'como' => laid-back dead crooner Perry Como So, we just put this in its logical order (some of you have got it already): In 150 years, a man on a trek through the stars will slip down a crack in the space-time continuum to present-day Earth. In his car, Dan Bush was watching a Perry Como concert DVD on his car's entertainment unit (which was at a volume right for him, but too loud for the agitated populace crowding his car). The space traveller saw this and said "I've got a bulletin for you - turn down the volume or I'll tan your hyde!" Dan subsequently turned down the volume to a non-Perry-Como-lover intensity and the space traveller was on his merry way, as was the formerly madding crowd. Dan Bush was then elected president of Iraq. "How did this happen?" -- Because Dan Bush cheated in the election.

Is it in anyway possible to read this riddle in a different manner? There is a woman / in the car..the windows are up and the doors are locked.../ Her husband comes to find her / shot ./. there are no bullet holes in the windows / and there was no one else / in the car she is wearing a red sweater .. The problem rising here is: Who got shot in the first place. Why did the husband shoot? And why is there no one? Could there be two or even more? Why is the woman wearing someone who's sweating red? Considering the title someone or sometwo got shot, but was the shottee a human or an animal? I m thinking more in the line of a snakebite, turning her sweater bloodred. Her husband found the snake and shot the slithering beast of venomous death. The snake got in through the open door, the woman got bitten threw out the snake, locked the door in fear and upped the windows.
