Betty got something in her eye. Everyone started to panic, but Betty actually seemed to calm down. Why?

Somebody threw tranquilzer pills at her and one got stuck in her eye. Or, she put in some of those cat or demon-eye contacts which caused her conservative family and friends to panic. Betty calmed down because it allowed her to see beter.

I don't know about Betty, but that was quite a fit her sister tossed.

Maybe it was a twinkle. And, Betty, modern women that she is has yet to introduce the twinkle inducer, and everyone around her, parents et al are very conservative causing them to panic.

Cute. I like Lightboxes' answer too though Although maybe that answer would be more applicable if the problem was phrased: Betty took something out of her eye. Everyone started to panic, but Betty actually seemed to calm down. Why? Answer: She took out her glass eye because it was really dirty. Then everyone saw her empty eye socket and freaked out.

I tell ya, William, your new avatar there keeps freaking me out. Every thread I look into, I see it out of the corner of my eye, and as I read the post, I'm thinking "What's Kitty got to say about this?". Only when the content does not match her previous postings do I look at the name! Just for the record, "Betty's sister" that I refered to in my first post was Hurricane Isabella, which had struck just a week or so before.

Suppose she got a bullet in her eye, she's likely to calm down...
