I don't know the answer to this one, so I hope someone comes up with it. A man lies dead in an alley, shot to death. He is surrounded by 52 bicycles. There is a large pile of dollar bills next to him.

This is one of those puzzles for which I have an answer that works, but I've been reliably informed that there is another answer. Anyway, here's the answer that I know... :: The man was playing cards with some shady characters. However, he was certainly no angel himself and was using fake money. During the game, someone realised that he was using counterfeit money and they shot him. To send a message to other wannabe cheats they dumped his body in the alley with his fake money and the pack of Bicycle playing cards they were using – Bicycle is a brand of playing cards, and, of course, there are 52 cards in a pack. ::

The other answer, with which I am familiar (though in my version there are fifty-three bicycles), is this: - The guy was playing cards, and cheated, hence the fifty-third bicycle (A fifth ace, perhaps). The other players realized he wasn't playing by the rules, and shot him.
