Unless a problem can be thought of as something other than a programming issue, it should really be posted to the "cs" forum, not any of the others. For example, the original question in your binary search tree problem can be thought of as a combinatorics problem instead of a programming issue, so it is appropriate to be placed in a forum where questions of mathematics are asked. Similarly your n & n-1 problem is actually mathematical in nature. But this is strictly computer science, and needs to be in the CS forum.
