The position below was reached after exactly 12 moves by each player. Find the unique sequence of moves which lead to it.

After a slight misstep in my first attempt, I get:

 1. c4   Nf6
 2. Qa4  Ne4
 3. Qc6 Nxd2
 4. e4   Nb3
 5. Bh6  Na6
 6. Nd2  Nb4
 7. Rc1  Nd5
 8. Rc3  Nf6
 9. Rf3  Ng8
10. Rf6  Nc5
11. f4   Na6
12. Nf3  Nb8

White's moves are primarily forced by the occupation of d2, which also forces black to capture early.  Avoiding putting white in check forces the knight-switch for black (which is what I missed on my first attempt).

Correct, SMQ!  Smiley I reckon this problem was tailor-made for your adamantine logic. Wink

Isn't black's fifth move in SMQ's solution an illegal move?
[edit]Ah sorry, it's the other knight that moves[/edit]

That's 4. ... Nf3+ (white is in check) forcing 5. Kd2 or Ke2 and spoiling the sequence.
