Cryptic Crossword Clues

I intend this thread to be similar to the Rebus thread we had... people post cryptic crossword clue(s) and the others try to solve it. Apologies if there is already a thread... If you don't know what a cryptic crossword is, you can find information here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptic_crossword To start off, here is one: 1) cut cut cut (6,2)

Does the (6,2) refer to something about the length of the clue, or is that part of the puzzle?

(6,2) means answer is two words, one 6 letters long and the other 2 letters long. So, yes, it talks about the length of the answer and is (usually) not part of the clue.

None so far. I suggest, with your answer you also include how it fits the clue. That way if a clue permits more than one answer, we can agree to that.

I think I've got one that fits nicked it: nick, edit=cut, cut and the third cut is the real definition

That answer may not be what you had in mind, but just in case it is, I suppose I'm up for the next clue. If your clue was 1 across, mine is an intersecting down. But I won't say where it intersects yet. And if my first answer was wrong, it may not intersect at all. But I'm going to try to make this an actual crossword. No sound before thugs take back streets (13)

Your answer is acceptable tohuvabohu, though I had a different answer in mind! editedIT, first cut = edit, second cut = edit, third cut = the meaning

Now that I see it, I think Grimbal actually got it first, but he was being cryptic. So the first intersecting clue should belong to him. (My clue doesn't link with the correct 1 across, unless it's not 1 across. So let's just table this clue until we find somewhere it fits). Noke, your head isn't completely filled with cotton wool. You missed a couple cryptic clues, but you're in the right area.

Uh... could you please tell me how to decrypt my clue? Not that I don't know (how silly, who would believe that? Hey, I wrote the clue!), but I want to check that you've got it right.

Okay, maybe not. I just thought censoring could be a cryptic reference to a type of editing, without using the offending word. It was your suggestion of using "it" as the second half that gave me my aha moment, and I thought it might not just have been coincidentally correct. Plus the fact that your guess didn't make any sense at all as a serious guess. For a really cryptic hint at the right answer how about ebbtides

My answer was just because when you censor a movie you just cut here and there, you cut, cut, cut.

Well, my cryptic seems to have killed this thread. Before everybody goes home for the weekend, maybe I need to give a clue or two, or suggest others go ahead and post additional cryptics without waiting for solutions. Hints: I was going for a 1 down answer to link with "nicked it" so the first letter is N. The straight clue within the clue needs to be interpreted a little more broadly than Noke was thinking. a couple standard cryptic code words that Noke missed in attempting to parse the riddle: sound and before And a second cryptic that I thought of at the same time, but couldn't quite get the wording the way I'd like it, but maybe it's a little easier anyway: To be or not, East to West, a man yet not. I've not got any new clue to offer, but the answer to tohuvabohu's is: neighborhoods Reasoning: [No sounds] Neigh [before [...] take (rob) back] bor [thugs] hoods

I blame the Aussie cryptic crosswords. They're disappointingly easy, I got very out of practice. Ummm, a meagre one... Their corpse set to dance (11)

I solved Noke's, but I won't give it away because I used some help to figure it out. Thought I'd offer one more: Two coppers remember half a salad vegetable. (8)
