I I'm not sure if it's hard enough to put it in the Medium forum.... So solve it! 6.28.469,8128,?

Quote: "6,28,496,8128,?" would be much easier...

In fact it would be perfectly simple, though I only ever got around to proving that a certain set of numbers all had a certain property, rather than proving that only those numbers do.

Since I'm only familiar with one property exclusively shared by 6 and 28 below 100, it wasn't too hard to make the leap and deduce that that was the property unifying the sequence. Had I bothered to calculate the next term, that would have taken far more time than recognising the sequence did. Had I attempted to prove that that was the next term, I'd probably still be working at it unless I either delegated much of the work to a computer, or got hit by an insight that escaped me last time I tackled the problem (over a decade ago)
