Here's an interesting article from New Scientist Clever fools: Why a high IQ doesn't mean you're smart A few snippets: "In a study published last year, Stanovich and Richard West of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, found there was no correlation between intelligence and a person's ability to avoid some common traps of intuitive-thinking" "most researchers agree that, overall, the correlation between intelligence and successful decision-making is weak." "A survey of members of Mensa (the High IQ Society) in Canada in the mid-1980s found that 44 per cent of them believed in astrology, 51 per cent believed in biorhythms and 56 per cent believed in aliens (Skeptical Inquirer, vol 13, p 216)."

Good article! We've been assessing IQ since ancient times, but have failed to understand the relationship between IQ, intelligence and rationality. This shows that we need to study intelligence and rationality separately, and that IQ tests do not measure the full scope of mental ability

Anyone who's spent much time with D&D (or any of a large number of other p/pRPGs) is familiar with the idea that "intelligence" and "wisdom" are very different stats...

Well, they didn't the standardized tests as we know them ... they were aware of individual differences in mental abilities, and educational tests were used in ancient Greece, Rome and China
