Hello and advice.

Hello all, I've just stumbled across this site and thought it would be the perfect place to get some advice on a riddle. To explain, every so often I get fed up of buying my parents boring presents for birthdays and for Christmas, you know the sort of thing, that book they want, a nice bottle of wine Etc... The last unusual present I arranged was for my dad a couple of years ago, so as it was my mum's birthday at the end of 2008 and she hadn't had something different for awhile I decided it was her turn. The present I settled on was a beautiful Chinese puzzle box, I placed a wonderful deep blue silk scarf carefully inside and nestled a working replica Cryptex from the film The Da Vinci Code in that; the aim was of course to reach the last part of the present placed inside the Cryptex. In order to do this my mum needs to enter a five letter sequence into the Cryptex, and this is where I need your advice, hidden in the lid of the puzzle box was this riddle, which was supposed to give her the code:

Among the first four
yet only one of three,
one of the offspring of
thunder I just may be.
Both to the left and
right of extraordinary
the greater or lesser I
could also be. Simply
converting numerically
will do nothing for
you but give you a
key. As a word of
warning in this lament
ignoring nothing in the
sequence a fib on acci
dent, applying the
same logic as
previously will then be
ya cue to open me.

My mum, unlike myself, is very smart and one of her favorite films is of course The Da Vinci Code, however she still hasn't cracked the code needed to open the Cryptex and get the last part of her present. So I thought I would throw the riddle out to this forum and see what you make of it, is it badly written or over the top? Your comments would be appreciated.
