Anybody been playing Trackmania Nations Forever? I discovered it only yesterday. It must be the best free game around.

I used to play the original Trackmania Nations a lot and managed to get about 40 Nadeo medals in training.  Cool

I play (as you know). I'm up to ~140 medals, with ~10 validation medals. I have an offline account which is a little better, around 155 and 15.

The game is well worth the download for anyone who has the time.

Visiting the TM forum I learnt that there is also now Trackmania United Forever, a 900MB free extension for Trackmania United. Hmm...I'd better leave my phone off the hook for a few days.

I need to write a bachelor paper. And it's not going too well, frankly. Getting caught up in playing  a game wouldn't do much to help the situation. (Especially considering the way I can get absorbed in playing games)

Maybe not. In fact, It took me about three days.
When you say you have an offline account and another, does the other comprise your official times?

The offline account is one at school, so it is useless to me currently. The official times and medals I have is at home. The school account wont let me access the net, though thankfully; I can still play it.

Haven't posted any official. Although one validation time (A-10-Acrobatic) I beat it by .34 seconds. It's validation time is around 9.5 so IF I posted that I'm sure I'd make it Cool.

So you have managed about 140 medals at home and about 155 at school? I reckon those extra 15 medals are easily accounted for. Roll Eyes

Have many official times have you posted? I have only done one so far. Just to see if I got on the local leader board. (I did.)

A10? Gee, a lot of driving skill involved there. Roll Eyes Actually, I know a trick for that one. But pulling it off is another matter, especially officially.

Yo emo (LOL), double-clicking the Gbx file opens the game and you are ready to roll. You can even study the back of my new car by racing me.

I'm not that stupid, just it loads; and then it minimizes without actually opening.

OK Forrest, calm down and finish your chocolates. LOL
Have you checked its association in Windows Explorer/Tool/Folder Options/File Types (assuming you are using XP)?
Mine is associated with 'TmForever'. You could try sending me your replay to see if I can open it.

I don't need either. Wink Keyboard or game pad work just fine. You can download Nations Forever (65 tracks) here.
If you like that (and I think you will), try United Forever, about 250 tracks. This ain't free but it's only $40. Smiley

I worked through the white (A) and green (B) levels of Nations with the keyboard, but (found, reassembled, and) switched to the wheel for the blue levels.  I'm definitely better at the slalom-like sections with the wheel -- my timing with the keyboard just isn't precise enough, and my fingers cramp after an hour or so.  I'm definitely "having more fun" with the wheel.

I do enjoy the game (I downloaded it when this thread first started), and am considering purchasing United, but I also know that I'm reaching the limits of my skill, and that those limits haven't changed much over the years.  I don't have the reflexes or coordination to be better than mediocre, or the time to really develop them.  Most of my golds in green and silvers in blue (still working on C08 to unlock the next chunk) have been won through far more persistence than skill. Wink
