I recently have been having trouble with Icemans' Quizzes. I can not open up the first page of the thread, without IE closing and telling me an error has occured. Could someone please tell me how this could be avoided/fixed?

I get the same problem, in fact it started back from the previous couple of quizzes. I'm not sure why it happened under IE, everything works fine when I use either Firefox or Netscape. ( though I prefer to use IE, having installed most of SMQ's script for IE ). Any ideas guys ?

I don't know anything about above scripts, really. I have an idea for a movie script though.  Roll Eyes

Icey, I don't know what is wrong with my browser, it hangs up everytime I tried accessing your riddles, even the latest #22. I guess you'd have to do without my sharp wit answers, for these riddles at least.  Cry

Are you able to view the secondary pageess of where the guesses occur, or not at all? I can only see the secondary pages.

This morning I turn on my computer, log in, and I see there is a new quiz. I also see that it has 0 replies. I enter the thread and IE closes down. It is just not fair for me, but hey, I can still win. It's who gets the last answer that matters, not first.

I'm sorry about these problems you're having, but they have nothing to do with me, unless somebody out there hates me, which I can understand though. Nobody is perfect. Btw, I had even bigger problem than you, that is, when my nick was alien, it got dropped from the database. That is why now my nick is Iceman now otherwise it would remain alien, even though I prefer Iceman. Perhaps someone here can give you an advice, as I know very lilttle about these annoying bugs.

mikedagr8, have you tried a different browser?

JiNbOtAk: have you seen a psychiatrist about this obsession with IE?  Wink (Actually, if you like IE, that's fine. I don't understand it, but it's okay...) Since SMQ wrote his scripts for GreaseMonkey on FireFox first, it shouldn't be that hard to install them in FireFox.

The only thing unusual in these quizzes that I can see is that Iceman makes use of the Marquee tags in them (the tag button with M on it on the Post Reply page). But I've seen marquee text in this forum displayed by IE before, so I am doubtful this is the problem. In fact, since Iceman's flying penguin signature makes use of the marquee tags, if this were the problem, you shouldn't be able to see any thread where he has posted.

It can't be the browser, I use IE and I've had no problem with the quizzes.

No, I haven't tried on a different browser for the simple reason, I don't have a different browser. I should, but since it is a family computer, and we aren't the most computer savvy people, it's simpler just in IE.

I was able to view the first couple of quizzes, but then all of a sudden, I was and still am not able to view the first page of the thread. I'm not sure why.

I don't know what version of IE I have, but I'm doubtful it's not too far from the new ones.

Marquees aren't a problem. Could it be the colour? I doubt. I see green fine.

You could put firefox portable on a USB stick; i find it's very convenient (you have your own browser and bookmarks wherever you go)

It's possible there was an update for IE (or possibly an update of some other detail in the tentacle monster known as the windows operating system)

The problem might well be that it is too new, rather than too old.

When did things start to go wrong? You might try "system recovery" to set your OS configuration back to an earlier time (but you'd lose all changes and update in between; and I'm not sure how frequently new recovery points are made on your computer)

Microsoft's patch day is the second tuesday of each month, if memory serves me right; so this thread was started only a couple of days after the last patch day. If this is any indication of when the problem started, then microsoft's updates are a likely culprit.

I can certainly put Firefox on my USB. That's easily done. Hehe, the school doesn't like other kids hacking their firewalls via different browsers.

Probably. Still unsure why though.

They started going haywire about Quiz 18/19. One of these tow. I am going to try to view the older quizzes, to see if I have any luck their. I am not sure how to do a system recovery Embarassed. The patch I'm not sure of, but the computer will update itself every chance it gets, so I'm not sure the updates are to blame.

If you've installed any of my scripts, it's also not out of the question that one of them could be the culprit.  Have you noticed if IE is failing with a scripting error (little yellow yield sign in the lower left)?  If so, double-clicking it will show you the error message -- which 90% of the time is pretty useless, but might point in some specific direction, at least.

I've installed 2 I think. One makes all videos I watch not start unless I click on the player, the other is the use of symbols like

I also can't view the older quizzes. There is no scripting error. It just freezes up and will not react. I close it with Task Manager.

I'm not that big a fan of IE actually, I used to prefer Netscape, but the new versions are not as comfortable as IE. FireFox is great, but mine went crashing a few months back, and I haven't come around to re-installing it. ( I'm really good at procrastination..  Roll Eyes )

You're right, I doubt that's the problem. ( I even tested it, I created a html file with marquee and view it with IE, and it worked fine. )

And that could very well be the culprit, as I remembered the AutoUpdate installing something from Windows Update sometime last month. ( which was when the problem started )

Actually, I don't think I have this forum bookmarked anywhere; I know the url by heart, which is very convenient when I doubt have my bookmarks with me. Tongue
(I do usually use auto-complete though.)

No, I'm serious. There isn't anything difficult about the url. It may look imposing, but it breaks down very easily.

Because that takes longer than typing it.
And after typing it once, I can use auto-complete ever after; I just type ocf downarrow, enter.
