Kato's Conjecture

Apparently, a University of Missouri-Columbia professor has solved Kato's Conjecture, dealing with the theory of waves moving through different media, such as seismic waves traveling through different types of rock. The proof has eluded mathematicians for some 4 decades. I don't know anything about it, but I thought I'd pass it on. Read about it here.

It's apparently a big deal that it's proved. Although it'd be more impressive if I could also find what it is he's proved it's probably better suited for 'general' than 'hard' though, since it isn't really a puzzle.
