GUESS OBJECTS HIDDEN IN BOXES

You’re in a room with a task at hand. There are four closed boxes on the floor, three small ones and one medium-sized. Each holds one object; and they are a white lily, an identical looking artificial lily, another artificial lily identical in all respects except for the orange color, and an atlas. You are not allowed to touch the boxes or damage them in any way; except for one box of your choice that you’re allowed to open. By applying logic, and by knowing that the problem is solvable, which is the only hint you're going to get, how could you determine in which boxes lie the corresponding objects?

I assume the atlas is in the medium box. If it fits the smaller ones, surely the other way also works, i.e. lilies can be in the medium size one and then there are too many options to solve (but it is solvable). From the three boxes, you can still smell them, do not touch, do not destroy, but lilies have a strong smell, so you can find the real one. Now, open one of the remaining two and you figure out the colour of the other two.

Are the boxes opaque? If not, open one of the two identical-looking lilies to determine which is real and which is fake.
