In the line of fire 2

Malloy and Peyton were playing darts at Malloy’s. Because of their weird sense of humor, they taped a picture of the president on the dartboard. Malloy’s sister turned them in because her brother was mean to her one time. The Chief takes them to a penitentiary but he gives them a chance to avoid doing time. To scare them, he takes them to an unoccupied cell and tells them a little bit about the prison. There is a circular room with a decorative pillar in the middle. Every day or so, the prisoners in solitary get one hour of recreational time to walk around this room. The exercise of the legs and the tricolored pillar should have a positive effect on prisoners, according to a psychiatrist. The slowly rotating pillar has a cylindrical shape. Its 3 colors may vary, using any of the following hues: aqua, orchid, bright green, carnation pink, carmine red, blaze orange and aureolin. Each color covers 1/3 of pillar's surface and it is arranged vertically from top to bottom. The Chief now explains to them the sequence of events. He’ll take Malloy to the circular room. After Malloy picks one color from the pillar, the Chief will take him out of the room and bring Peyton to the room, taking care they don’t see each other. If Peyton guesses the color Malloy picked, they are both free to go. The Chief leaves them alone in the cell for one hour so they can discuss a plan. What is the plan they can agree on, so that Peyton guesses the right color? - Peyton can guess only once.
- It’s not allowed to mark the pillar.

Is there anything preventing the following from working? hidden: | Order the seven hues in some way, and both pick the earliest of the three present on the pillar |

Actually my first strategy was same as what rmsgrey has posted...here is the second way I think it can be done ...Of any three colors present, let them choose the one which is highest in alphabetical order..

| That seems to be the exact same strategy, using reverse alphabetical order as the specific component.
