1883 was a major one. May have been another between 1883 and 1618 ok not looking for volcanoes although AD 79 was pretty tricky.

I think 1921 is the answer, and there is a typo. Perhaps instead of 79, it's supposed to be 709?

hmmm, I didn't do too much investigation, but it would appear that I would need to subscribe to that journal in order to view the pdf. I'll take your word for it that there is some really strange coincidence in which those numbers come up, or something.
