So I now know what the answer is (having solved people's hints) but still have no idea as to why...

errr... i think i have the answer... could it be "o"? hidden: | This is because "only" roughly spells out as "O 'n' (as in rock 'n' roll) L why". The "why" can be viewed as the question mark. Thus, already having the L ? in the alphabet means that you are only missing the O. Once you have added the O then you have "O and (N) L ?(why/Y) to spell out ONLY. | Sorry if the explenation was unclear but this is my first post on the forum.

The theory goes that a million monkeys typing at a million typewriter will produce the entire works of Shakespeare. Now, thanks to the internet, we know that's not true.

You've found the right clue in the replies, but you've missed the target to which the clue applies.

I think i have the method but i just dont have the answer. Could it be that you have to read the question the other way and when it says "the only missing letter", it means the missing letter that is needed to make "only" into another word? Only problem is that i can't see the other word. None of the letters seem to make sence. But that's probably just me being slow...

No, you are entirely on the wrong track. Grimbal gives it away, if you can figure out what he is refering to.

I still don't see why the answer is what it is. Would it be different if the question was: What letter is missing? B C D F G H J L ? V W X Y Z

| Technically, no, although some would find it much more difficult. A couple of related questions to think about: what is the name of the symbol at the end of this sentance? Does that name have any notable properties? --SMQ

Can't believe it took me until SMQ's hint to figure out why the answer was - what I figured out a lot sooner from previous hints. I'm clearly far too out of practice...
