Can anyone help me find the answer to these riddles? 1. 3 antique clockes were put up for auction. The first lost one minute in every 24 hours; the second one lost 1 minute every hour, and the third clock didnt go at all. Which clock would you buy if you chose the one that showed the correct time most often? 2. 12345789 Can you arrange these figures into two seperate groups, both of which add up to the same total? (no you can turn the 9 upside down and call it a 6!) 3. How many letters are in the Greek alphabet? asked the Sphinx. John knew that the Sphinx was famous for asking trick questions, so he thought carefully and gave him the correct answer. What was his answer? 4. Four gamblers placed their bets on the order in which the first 4 horses in the Gold Trophy race would place. Gilbert had two of the four in the correct order his list was as followed 1)Little Buttercup 2)Nanki-Poo 3)The Gondolier 4)Pirate King Sullivan's list read 1)Pirate King 2)Little Buttercup 3)Nanki-Poo 4)The Gondolier He only had 1 horse placed correctly. Arthur had thought that Nanki-Poo and Pirate King would place next to each other, but hew as wrong. William won the bet. What was his winning order?

0) please use meaningful titles. 1) Even a stopped clock is right twice a day 2) hint: (cause I'm too lazy to try all the cases) there are two operations allowed in making your sums: addition and juxtaposition. 3) 16 4) NLTP

I got: 4) PTLN by the other interpretation of "two of the four in the corret order" - that, of the 6 possible pairs, precisely one has the correct horse earlier

I like rmsgrey's answer to 4) better. "Two of the 4 in the correct order" to me means that there is nothing better to say about the bet. What if 3) was about the English alphabet? Would the answer be 24 or 25, depending on the spelling of "kew" for Q and "eks" for X?

For 2) you could also have (12, 4, 8) and (3, 5, 7, 9) And I'm sure there are several others as well.
