Starting with a square piece of paper, what is the minimum number of folds that you'd need to ensure that you've folded a regular hexagon (assume 0 thickness of paper)?

Lets count the final number of creases in the paper as the number of folds.

An octogon or a hexagon?

If you fold a paper in 4, does it count as 2 folds or 3?

Can you assume you can fold wherever you want, or do you want a method to fold a perfect hexagon without any measuring tool?

If yes and yes, I find 8 folds.

Ooops, octagon first (hexagon was for first follow up)

IF you fold paper in 4, depends how you fol dit, I guess. Tongue

Such that you fold it, resulting in 4 identical squares, thats 2 folds.

No measuring tools, just lining up and folding.

4 folds are obviously enough for an octogon, but I would need 3 more to locate the right place to fold.
