A book worm sees a 3-volume cookbook set on the mantle and says, "yummy!" The worm eats his way horizontally from page 1 of volume 1 to the last page of volume 3. Given: The books are arranged in conventional order (Left to right), each book is an inch thick, and the covers and pages have no individual thickness. How many "inches" of book did the book worm munch through? This was an "extra credit" question on an MBA exam re: Modelling. 11/20: Hint-- Most of the people missed it!

I would have to agree... And to show a picture of the solution: First page of each book are on the right of each book. Last page of each book are on the left of each book. 1 2 3 --- --- --- | || || | | || || | | || || | --- --- --- A B However, in reality, in order to get to PAGE ONE of VOLUME ONE located at "A" the worm would have to start at the far left OR eat non-horizontally OR the book was open to begin with OR the worm somehow got to that position. BUT since the question uses the word "from", then it is correct.
