Pick 6 to get 21

Pick 6 of the digits below to get a sum of exactly 21.

9 9 9
5 5 5
3 3 3
1 1 1

A note about the answer::

I actually know two answers for this: the original "joke" by Martin Gardner, and a second one, that is, hmmm... not a joke

Obviously there is no straightforward answer, since 6 odd numbers added together will always be even. But the question doesn't actually say what you're supposed to do with the digits. You can "get" 21 by adding a few and multiplying a few. Or you could take one of the 9's and turn it upside down. Or you could get exactly 21 and exactly 1 more. Hey, if we can do whatever we want with the digits, let's take the digits of 21 and turn them around. It's easy to get 12. Does the 21 have to be in base 10?

I agree. For example, using the top six numbers: 9+9+9–5–5/5=21, using the bottom six numbers: 3(3+3+1)+1–1=21.

My appologies. It should have been a sum (now it is). And you guys got the correct answers.

How about turning it upside down - 6+6+6+1+1+1 = 21
