pirates ship riddle

You are captured by pirates and taken to their ship. They tell you they will let you go if you answer their riddle and will kill you if you fail it. The question is: There is a rope ladder hanging over the side of a ship. The ladder has 20 rungs spaced 8 inches apart. The bottom rung is just touching the water. If the tide raises at 12 inches an hour how many rungs of the lader will be covered in 90 minutes? This really should not take much time to figure out.

When you've been around for awhile you recognize these things, which gives you a better chance of finding it in a search. It's not surprising that a search based on your question failed to turn up Kitty's, given how much they differ in statement.
