I was just wondering about the bottom bar on home page. If you are online, but on a different site, than are you consitered online? Just curious.

What do you mean 'on a different site'? If you have logged in here and not logged out (or been timed out) and this window is still open, then you are still online here.

As far as I know it just checks whether you've been active in the last 10-15 minutes.
In any case it certainly isn't following you around online

in firefox, the session is maintained, unless you logout. Other will see your status as online.
